Everyone was saying what a great movie this was, so i put it at the top of my list on netflix, it arrived today, I put my daughters down for a nap and couldn't wait to watch it. Don't get me wrong I didn't hate it, but I was expecting something new, not just a weak Creepshow rip off with some Quentin Tarantino story mixes. It was like a movie I would sneak my girlfriend into when I was 14 years old. Sam and the lack of CGI were the only redeeming qualities about this movie. What I was thinking through the whole movie was, "bubblegum horror", or horror for teens, and that is fine, young people need to see horror too. The Ring, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Grudge, Prom Night remake and all the other PG-13 movies that have sprung up like mushrooms in so many piles of cow dung lately. But come on guys we are better than that, as far as horror fans go, I think of us as the "go to guys" if you are looking for something cool and different (Leslie Vernon, The Hills Run Red or High Tension). I think that maybe we are so starved for something new and fresh that we will latch ourselves on to the first thing that comes along that is not a remake. I know it is rated R, but why, because of 1 set of boobs. Not trying to piss anyone off, I know everyone has an opinion, but I could not help but to express mine about this movie. I carve my pumpkin every year watching the original Halloween and I thought that maybe I would have something new to watch just in case that i got tired of Halloween (HA!) and wanted to change things up. I don't mind though, I have been watching Halloween on Halloween night for years now and it never gets old. Just my opinion. Let me know why you liked it so much, because i really wanted this to be a cool movie, one that I could take to the firehall and say "You guys have got to see this". Maybe I missed something. I am an open minded guy, throw your opinion at me and see if you can sway me away from the feeling that this movie gave me. It was like listening to a whiny Blink 182 or Good Charlotte "my daddy didn't hug me enough" CD, too much sugar and not enough meat (I apologize if you are a fan). I am looking for Slayer, Pantera, or Hatebreed horror movies. Is anyone out there on the NIGHTOWL forums like minded or am I all alone on this?Mike

Sorry to hear you didn't care for it. I loved the movie. I can't even remember how many times I watched it leading up to Halloween, but it put me in the spirit each and every time. I love the stories and how they're intertwined, the acting was good, and the imagery was nothing short of spectacular. The movie oozes Halloween in every frame. It has become a new holiday classic for me.

I personally watched it as a Halloween movie moreso then a horror movie. I loved the cinematography, storyline, acting, script, and felt it captured the holiday, both what is fun and terrifying about it. I could not disagree more with the movies you compared it to, both the teen scream crap and the slasher horror, as it does not fall into a category with either. I watched this as a standalone movie that I feel perfectly captured the spirit of Halloween, from the things that used to frighten you as a child to the realities of adulthood and the evils of the real world. Prom Night, The Ring, etc, were supposed to be true horror movies that stunk. Leslie Vernon, The Hills Run Red, etc, are modernized twists on the same slasher stories we know and love. This was somehting different to me, and something better. If I want what any of those movies have, I can go watch them, wasn't looking for that in a Halloween themed movie, as the holiday holds so many meanings and memories to me, I felt were really brought to life in this movie. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, I personally think it was fantastic.

ouch man you killed me <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"mad.gif\" /> <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"mad.gif\" /> with not liking the movie and ripping on my favorite band Blink 182. I feel violated. In my opinion I thought it was a great movie just like was said above I think it was a halloween movie and really gives you that halloween feel. I know it definitely got me pumped and ready for halloween.

First time I watched HalloweeN III I didn't really care for it. Then I watched it again 2 years later and it started to grow on me... now it's a must every HalloweeN. Trick R Treat is along the same lines. It really could have been so much better, but it's still a solid film and gets me in the spirit unlike so many other new releases today.

I very obviously stated that I wanted you guys to tell me what you liked about it so that I could maybe change my opinion, and mr. hellbilly1965 has to go and insult one of the greatest bands of all time (to me). This is not the reason that I opened this topic, do me a favor and stay off my threads. I tried to be as respectful as I could but obviously hellbilly1965 did not read the whole thread or just wants to stir up crap, either way i am not interested in his BS. This topic is probably going the way of locked, so thanks to the guys with the intelligent comments. Mike

everyone has their own opinions about the movies they like . some movies just take a few times to watch for them to grow on them . this one may just be that kind of movie for you . but once you've seen it , you will spot little hidden things that you missed the first time around which is cool . mike,
