Hey, all. Some of you may remember that I've been working on a sculpture of Michael Crawford as the Phantom of the Opera for around 10 months now. Over the past 2 months, I finally got around to finishing all his prosthetic appliances...Because of that, I figured now would be a great time to share some more pics and get opinions on how I'm doing. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Smile\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" />What I have done: The shoulders have been carved down again, neck has been slit with age lines, mouth has been resculpted about 3 times, and the hairline's front form has been built. The eyes have been completely redone using anatomical eye forms cast from real glass eyes so that they have a cornea. (You can see that he's glaring off to his left-hand side in a couple of my indoor photos below, which should explain his otherwise "static" posture. This sculpture is meant to be more like an old portrait of the Phantom than an "action pose.") The monster prosthetics are all added and completely finished. I have also been testing hair follicle design techniques on the top of the head, so you can see remnants of that, as well.I want to mention that I would *NOT* have gotten the sculpture this far along without the help of my friends Rich Krusell and Dan Roebuck. They have both been invaluable to this whole project and I'd like to publicly thank them for all their help and support.Though the appliances are all 100% done, the rest is still far from complete...I need to add his skin texture and pores, learn how to sculpt realistic hair, and decide whether to sculpt the clothing or add real clothing onto the sculpture itself before molding. Here are a few of my best reference shots to give an idea of the look I'm trying to achieve:Cheers,Ryan

Wow. I'm not really aware of this version so I'm not qualified enough to give a critical opinion. But I will tell ya that you are doing an outstanding job. The disfigurement looks great and the actor's likeness shows through.

Thanks a lot, you guys. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Smile\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /> I'm tryin' really hard to make it perfect. It's still got a long way to go, though...Here are 2 more pics I forgot to add. They show the corneas VERY well...In the top picture, he's looking right at the camera:Thanks again and cheers,Ryan

Holy crap. Thanks for qualifying my point I made of how much time and work you put into a piece! Unbelievable work Ryan, one of the hardest things to do is really nail down the likeness of an actor, even harder when that actor is under makeup. You've done that perfectly here. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing more progress, and then the finished piece!

I too don't know much about this character, but based on the reference photos looks like you nailed it to me. The actor definitely comes through and the work on the prosthetics looks great. Very well done!
