    Hey all,
I\'m doing quite a few new pieces this year, one of them of course being this one. I\'ve ALWAYS been a massive fan of Dwight Frye and his work. It\'s always bothered me that this man passed away at such a young age, and that we didn\'t get to see more of him and his work. But what he DID leave us were some of the greatest performances in the \'classic\' age, in some of the most famous films in history (nevermind just the \'horror\' genre). I chose to depict Mr. Frye in his role as the fated \'Renfield\' from DRACULA 1931. He gave an all out amazing portrayal of a man who\'s fighting with the fact that he\'s under the Count\'s spell. He\'s sane and pitiful at times, and completely off his rocker at other moments. I\'ve always LOVED his performance in this film.
When I decided to tackle this project, I made another decision. Being such a big fan of the late and great Mr. Joe Riley, I decided to sculpt this piece bigger than 1:1 Scale, and \'sculpt\' the hair and eyebrows, as Joe had done with a lot of, if not most of his pieces. I\'m honored to have a copy of his Chaney Sr. \'Phantom\', and it\'s honestly one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

I had my son snap a pic of me \'pretending\' to sculpt, just to give you an idea as to the size of this guy.

I\'ll be inserting eye blanks, which I\'m going to add the iris and pupils to, along with red yarn for the veining and finish it with epoxy. He\'ll also have eyelashes. I\'m also going to add the collar of his dress shirt, which I think will top it off nicely.

Until he\'s molded and the first piece is done, I figured I\'d share a few pics of the sculpt. I\'m still fussing a bit with the hair, but all in all, he\'s pretty much done.

    -A
