Though I\'ve never actually seen the original Toolbox Murders, I\'ve always been a fan of Tobe Hooper\'s 2004 remake, which I find to be a bit of an underrated little treat. It\'s got some cool practical effects, a pretty kickass monster, the awesome and uber precious Angela Bettis in the lead and a fun throwback vibe to it, reminiscent of the horror films from the 70\'s/80\'s, without really trying too hard to be that. Though the name Tobe Hooper doesn\'t exactly mean what it used to, Toolbox stands out for me personally as one of his better post-Chainsaw efforts.

Now about a year ago, there was a lot of talk about the impending release of a sequel to the film, with both sales art (above) and even a trailer (below) hitting the net in May of last year. It was announced that the film would pick up right where the remake left off, and feature more victims meeting a bloody end at the hands of Coffin Baby, AKA the \'Toolbox Killer\'. I wasn\'t exactly jumping for joy but the news did certainly peak my interest, being a fan of Hooper\'s remake. Soon thereafter though, all talk of the movie ceased, and it seemed to have dropped off the face of the Earth. Hell, even the official website went defunct. Da coonoodle happened?!
For whatever reason the movie popped into my mind tonight and I set out to find out what had happened to it. And I was quite shocked to discover that Toolbox Murders 2 is actually now available on DVD through Amazon\'s Burn On Demand program, which essentially means that there is no official release of the DVD, but rather that Amazon will burn you a copy when you place your order. I guess the folks who made it didn\'t want to bother spending the money to produce DVDs, so they just went about it this way. Kinda says something about how confident they are about the movie, don\'t ya think?
Now most interesting of all is that the Burn On Demand DVD just went up for sale two days ago, which is odd because I didn\'t hear a peep about the release anywhere on the net this week. It\'s also pretty golly gee willikers odd that the movie just so happened to pop into my head two days after it was quietly released onto DVD. It\'s almost like Coffin Baby was whispering in my ear, so that I\'d spread the gospel of this release. And I wouldn\'t dare let him down.
So just in case anyone has been wondering whatever happened to the sequel, I just wanted to let you know that you can now buy it on DVD through Amazon. At the moment it\'s got an unfortunately steep price of $26.99 attached to it, but perhaps that will go down as the weeks pass.
It probably sucks but yea, there\'s that.
