What type of oil based clay do you guys like the best for sculpting for a latex mask? I was told to use WED for dividing wall .I have heard so many types and wondered what was best and where you buy your stuff from. Also who has a good price on slush latex 5 gallons? Thanks for any info you can share. Im green when it comes to this so just wondering the best stuff to buy without spending a fortune....

HELLO,Wed Clay em -217 is my favorite clay for sculpting masks, you want to use 210 water based clay for dividing walls. Roma and Chavant NSP medium are also nice clays but much slower to use.Casey

Monster Makers oil based clay is great to use. Also, that Chavant previously mentioned is excellent too. Wed clay is a pain in the ass if you ask me, because it dries up if you dont keep it totally covered when youre not working. It is fine for a quick sculpture, but if youre going to set out to make a great, detailed mask, you should go with chavant or oil clay. Wed clay is however needed for sculpting the divided walls in molding, as previously mentioned. So i suggest using oil based clay, because it wont dry up and is cheaper than chavant.Addison

unless you are a pro or can sculpt at a break neck speed, definitely go with an oil based clay like what has been named above....take care,Tommy

I dont have any problems with Wed drying out too fast and Im in a very dry climate. I can sculpt very fast but I actually prefer to take my time with Wed. When needed I give the clay a light spray down with water and simply bag the sculpt, this is all you need to do when not working on it. I have had Wed clay heads last 3 months with no cracking. You can add Glycerin to water in a bottle and this will keep things very moist however I never do this and I actually rarely spray my sculptures down. I like them to dry out so I leave the sculpt un bagged on purpose through out the day and I almost never spray it so the clay will harden up. I have no problem sculpting the same details as you would in hard oil based clay. Anyways its all personal preference to what you like.Casey
