does anybody know how i can thin down leather strapping easily? i\'m going to do some part 8 mask and with the buckles and the other piece of leather going through it seem kind of bunchy to me. the straps are .125 to .1875 . closer to .1875 and I\'d like to cut them down to .09375. and ideas would be appreciated.

I make my own straps from scratch. I have a bunch of tools I use to cut and tool the leather hides I use, I\'ve never seen a tool that lets you "split" the thickness of a piece of leather. Not say it doesn\'t exist but I would sure like to know myself.

I\'m pretty sure they used faux leather on the P8 Hockey Mask, not the cheap neca x straps but the expensive stuff they use for dentist chairs, i got some off ebay to do my P8\'s with, not cheap for a large piece but you can sometimes get off cuts at a good price, let me know if you have any problems Dean as i could always spare you some of mine.

I actually did this once years ago, used a bench sander, held the leather on with a press that kept my hands back and just held the back side on, moving it back and forth a bit till it was thinned down, took a while and made a mess, but it did work.

Exactly, thats the technique we use in the forge. I used it for my dagger handle wrapping.. I forget the name for it....hmmm
