Cold Cast Resin

Anyone have any experience using cold cast resins? I saw a mask kit on ebay recently that says it is cold cast resin. I have worked with styrene and a little ABS before, but if anyone can tell me what they think of resin casts, I would be most grateful. Are they strong, or do they tend to break easily. Is it easy to sand, Dremel, and all that. Can you use ordinary paints like Krylon? Just basics. I\'ve never worked with the stuff and I want to know what I\'m in for, but it\'s a great mask.

I had 2 hockey masks made from resin, I dropped them. Notice the use of past tense when I say \'had\', lol.

I was taught how to use cold cast resin by Jason Zyla of the now retired NFX Studios. He used to cast his hockey masks with that stuff from his silicone molds. I never seen any of his masks break or anything when it came time for dremeling, drilling, sanding etc. It\'s a matter of taste i guess. As far as making hockey masks goes, ABS and vaccuforms are the way to go but if your working with silicone molds then the resin is what you need. Monster Makers sells por-a-cast resin. It comes in 2 parts. Basically if you were in fact working with a silicone mold (like for a Hockey Mask) you would mix about 1oz. A and 1oz. B and then slush cast the mold your casting. It gradualy gets very viscous and starts to turn white as your slush casting. Once that happens and you see the resin does not run anymore then you repeat about 4-5 more times. Thats about all i can say about the stuff except for DONT GET IT ON YOUR SKIN! As far as using resin for any other purpose, I have not. Hope that helps a little.
