It really depends on what you are trying to sculpt whether its a full head vs. a half etc.I usually use water based clay because its so easy for me to get I buy the 20lb bag and that was just about enough for a full head, its not too bad but it can be a paint to work with if you don't keep it moist. Hope this helps,Heck <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" />

If you have a nice full head armature to sculpt on, it requires significantly less clay. 5-10 lbs is typically more than enough depending on how big your mask is going to be. If you don't have a professional armature, you can create one from foam or a newspaper filled duct tape form, then just start layering the clay on.The head form from Monster Makers is pretty good as a base, but I don't think they sell the one with full shoulders anymore. I just picked up one from Berman Industries that looks like it will be really nice to work on, but looks like a slightly smaller cast than the MM head. Composite Effects also offers a really nice, smooth surfaced, head form in both full bust and head only for mask display, but would work fine to sculpt on if you don't need the shoulders.
