What I did before that made the blood look real was using the karo syrup and some burnt umber paint. If you want it to stick, put your color mixture in 5 minute epoxy instead of syrup. I've done that before with excellent results. Want chunky blood? That's why if it's going to be kept for a prop and not disposed of, I would use the 5 min epoxy.
