I used to own this DMC Roy mask. I can't remember if I got it from Steve or Dan... One of the old timers here...

I was under the impression that the DMC was an the larger side. So then I would assume (and please forgive my ignorance of the vacuforming process) that as a hockey mask is recast, the resulting copies would be smaller than the original, correct? If that is the case, then I would also assume that the DMC is from the same buck as the film used part 5 masks.<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndI can answer this for you. When a screen-used, production-made, or movie-molded hockey mask is recast to create a replica, there are three options you can take:1.) Make a mold of the INSIDE of the mask. This mold is then used to cast a solid, stone "negative" mold of the original mask's backside shape and details. In this new "negative" mold, you can pour a "positive" casting that will be used to create a "forming buck." This buck, usually a hollow yet rather thick casting in polyurethane plastic or resin, is then modified with new drill holes centered perfectly through all the molded vent indentations and eyes, then used as a solid shape for pulling heated thermoplastic over (IE: vacuforming) to create new replica hockey masks. These vacuformed replicas can be made virtually the same size and uniform thickness as the original mask used, but will contain none of the the mask's individual surface details or damage. These replicas will generally be more accurate to the original vacuforming buck used for the production masks than they would be to the individual mask that you molded, unless the individual mask has been deformed or reshaped. Lots of replica hockey masks pulled from ABS plastic in this community have been produced this way.2.) Make a mold of the OUTSIDE (top side) of the mask with silicone. This silicone mold of the mask's surface can then be used to create exact replicas of that particular mask's surface by pouring liquid polyurethane plastic directly into the mold and then slushing/rotating it around to cure a smooth, uniform casting. When this casting is completely cured and removed, it should look exactly like the surface of the mask you molded. IE: If created correctly and supported properly during the casting process, this mold will produce castings that are 100% identical in design, size, and shape to the mask's front side, but the backside will be undetailed, inaccurate, and uneven. This is how Bill Forsche's Part 6 masks on Ebay and Mario Kirner's "Black 7" masks have been produced.3.) Make a mold of the OUTSIDE of the mask with silicone. Use this silicone mold to cast a buck, modify the buck by drilling new holes in the vents and eyes, and then use it to pull vacuformed plastic castings. These replica masks will be visibly larger than the original mask you molded and contain a lot less surface detail, even when you use very thin plastic. In fact, the castings may even look a bit "fat" or "rounded" in comparison to the original...This is unfortunately how DMC's masks were probably made, and it's rumored to be the method used to make Part 8's production hockey masks, too. It's generally the worst of all three options, by far.Cheers,Ryan

I always thought your Part 5 Joey was one of the best. To bad you sold it.

That's a DMC that I repainted and strapped on the right.<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndWow there practically the same size. Really cool since I had allways felt the FS masks were a little small for part 3,4 and 5.
