I downloaded 25 episodes of an anime series I enjoy over Bittorrent just about a day ago, and when I looked at the files, it turns out that only 4 of them were .avi, whereas the latest 20 were all in a format known as .mkv, or "Matroska."

Well, the Matroska files would only play sound, but the video portion wouldn\'t play properly. Discouraged, I went to the site that provided the anime files and accessed their mIRC server to ask them what the problem might be. They told me to download a helpfull pack called the "CCCP", the Combined Community Codec Pack, which was some kind of collection of codecs and needed programs such as VobSub. Then I tried to make the vid play in all types of players....Anything from Zoom Player to VLC, Media Player Classic, and The Core Media Player. Each time, I received the same error message..."(Insert player name here) has generated errors and will now be closed by Windows." Afterwards, the program debugs itself and shuts down. WTF, you know?!

These damn videos should play properly...I have every bit of software needed to do it. Maybe it could be a hardware problem? Does anybody here have any knowledge of such things? I am NOT deleting these 5 gigs of videos just so I can spend another 6 days downloading them from somewhere else. haha.

Ryan Bean, R.I.P., his head exploded

Did you or do you have ANY other codecs installed??
If so, your best bet would be to uninstall ALL codecs, including CCCP (which, really isnt a codec).
    Reboot, then reinstall CCCP.

I had a bunch of codecs randomly installed, but I\'m not sure I can pick all of them out and delete them all without fuckin\' up something else. Hehe. I can try.

Thing is, I\'ve been getting that exact error message even BEFORE I ever installed CCCP. So I would say that it\'s not a problem with CCCP cause it was already a problem even before I had downloaded it.

I have G-Spot already. It only works with .AVI files, though...It won\'t recognize Matroska stuff.

I know CCCP is \'supposed\' to be the \'be all\' of packs. I also know that you are meant to uninstall other codecs before you install the CCCP pack.
I dont know man, try it and see what happens. You may have a bad codec somewhere if you had problems prior. I\'m also sorry your head exploded but I\'m glad to see you back up and around.

Hehe. Thanks for the help. I\'ll go back through and delete every codec I find.....I was just kind of hesitant to do that at first because I didn\'t quite understand the concept of an "END ALL BE ALL" codec pack. Figured I\'d get them all deleted, and then I\'d find out that something else won\'t work because CCCP would have been missing that one solitary codec that I would have found extremely useful. =P
