I believe the plot is that the surfers that are attacked in the original didn't die, they became vampires too, and the new movie is about them as a new clan of vamps. This is part of MGM's initiative to make a bunch of direct-to-dvd sequels/prequels to classic movies that have sold well on DVD. They are also developing a Bill and Teds movie at the moment. I believe Robocop is also on the drawing board. The scary list of others properties on the list of possibilities are:BladerunnerThe GooniesEscape from NY/LA SeriesMad MaxAll of these deserve better than direct-to-DVD crap. I just hope some of the creative types behind the originals have some sort of way to stop any junkie sequels......but if the $$$ right anything can happen....

Here's my 2 cents. The original is a much beloved classic slice of 80's horror. No one is clamoring for a sequel and let alone a crappy DTV sequel. Let well enough alone. Is there one ounce of originality left in Hollywood?.......................................Larry
