So are the movies ANY different then the ones released on DVD prior to this set?

Good point. I assumed that the original releases were also dual layered, although they may not have been.

Quote:I\'m not so sure about the compression being all that bad to be honest. These are dual-layer discs which mean they can hold twice the information as older DVDs. Think of some movies that have 2-4 hours of extras on them including the movie...those are the same. It\'s just that this time they elected to include all the extras on a separate disc and put two movies on each disc to cut down packaging.I compress movies all the time and the quality is still great so i agree compression is ok i think they can fit more onto a dvd than they used to be able to...

Unless they\'ve done any sort of remastering (which should be stated on the packaging) then it\'s most likely the same quality as the prior releases. To my knowledge, none of the first 8 movies have ever been digitally remastered...just cleaned up a little and slapped on DVD (boxset included).
Any normal length movie (90-120 minutes) should be able to fit on one layer of a DVD uncompressed, especially seeing as how there\'s no 5.1 surround sound or anything else to take up space. Dual layer discs just allow more stuff to be put on them like extras, more commentaries, subtitles, etc... Of course, you can just go buy a dual layer burner for under $200, get a NetFlix subscription, and burn all the movies you want, full and uncompressed...um, was that out loud?

so the box set doesn\'t have surround sound or anything? Sheesh. I guess they\'re just like the ones I already have. I just have to get a copy of the bonus disk.

is part 3 in 3d?? the nightmare box set came with 3d glasses for freddy\'s dead and its in 3d. i was just wondering if paramount did this for part 3 in the f13 box set????

no, the 3d is different for f13....they use kinda pricey shutter lenses....much better than the lame red and blue crap....but yeah, no 3d...
