to answer the question that I know, as well as every other jerkhole <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Tongue\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /> <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":o\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ohmy.gif\" /> who posted in this thread knows you meant, if the masks are well taken care of, they will last much longer than you. Wearing masks will always drastically speed up the break down process. Make sure you always clean the properly if they are worn, powder them, stuff them appropriately, and keep them out of direct sunlight/UV light. Some collectors even go a step further and bag up each mask with garbage bags to prevent a barrier between then and environmental factors such as dust and whatnot.take care,Tommy

i know that if you don't plan on wearing any of them but want them just for collection , you can have them foam filled and they'll last alot longer . after wearing , you always want to clean them out real good and them put a little powder in them as well . some people even put their masks in glass cases instead of a shelf but it's all up to you how you'd like to care for your masks . mike,

I know for a fact Tommy has a penchant for spam, but he is an informative soul.

Stress the sunlight/UV thing.I learned the hard way what the sun can do to a mask! Not only does it fade the paint but the UV light causes the paint to shrink which causes cracking and peeling!

Possibly my favourite thread in recent memory! Shades of the old days. I always found spam jamed up my airbrush and never made it onto the masks, unless I use a chip brush, but you can never get it as smooth as you want, and the color selection is limited. Oddly enough, UV light can also cause spam to crack and peel too... The short answer, indefinitely. With proper care and regular dusting and maintenance your masks will outlive you. The latex used now is a FAR cry from the old DPs and mass produced stuff, add the thickness, the fact the paint is also latex, acting as another layer and you're in pretty good shape. Latex is a natural material, and it will break down though, oxygenization breaks all things down, the molecular structure of the latex will revert to a liquid state. With powder to keep moisture away, and protection from UVA rays it'll prolong their life exponentially. Oil, moisture, dust and the sun are all enemies of latex, avoid them, avoid PMD (premature mask death)

    For example, this was a one off Freddy mask I got when I was 14 in the UK. used for television. Lovely mask it was too <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Sad\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sad.gif\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/mayney/DSCN0402.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/mayney/DSCN0404.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

My first Freddy mask (which technically was a knock-off "burned man") mask did the exact same thing as in those pics after only a couple years. Since then, I have a few latex masks which frankly I've not taken great lengths to preserve, and they're in just as good condition now as they were 15-20 years ago. My really nice latex stuff, and the more expensive stuff, I do regular maintenance on just to be safe.
