As much as we all liked what Robert did with Freddy throughout the years, that's still his interpretation. Wes created the character and as everyone knows, he was supposed to be a child molester and/or killer, not just child killer. So if this movie sticks closer to Wes's original vision of Freddy, who's to say who the "real" Freddy was. ...It's not fair to be that blind-devoted, as many Kane Hodder fans are with Jason, as if he were in the 6 preceding movies before his own.<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndYou're right...Freddy is technically the creation of Wes Craven. Any writer can conceive of and create a character. But it takes an actor to breathe life into that character and TRULY create the character...and sometimes the actor can tell the director what he really did want all along but the was unable to find or see for himself. The interpretation we saw Robert give was not only crafted by him, it was crafted by Craven as well. Actors seldom create their characters and execute them in a vacuum, especially on a film that had as much riding on it as the original film did. Filmmaking is a collaborative art...and especially so in the case of creating Freddy Krueger...the character we saw in the original film was a creation of many people involved in the film, including Craven.Argh! It's frustrating because there's part of me that wants to share so many of the things I've learned while working on the documentary, but I can't do that, obviously. But the "real" vision of Freddy is still the one that Wes participated in bringing to life.As far as what's fair and what isn't...I think that's subjective and up to personal interpretation. There are many who would take the polar opposite stance as you have (as we can see by some of the posts in this forum).<!--quoteo(post=351363:date=Feb 26 2010, 02:24 PM:name=SICKNESS)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE (SICKNESS @ Feb 26 2010, 02:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecDon't you think that's a little obnoxious? ...Whether you are a fan of remakes or not, it's all part of the hobby. Just seems strange to not go to a remake of one of your favorite characters movies...<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndThe horror fan community has this same "debate"/discussion every time the newest reboot/remake of a horror "classic" hits theaters. And, again, I think it just boils down to your stance on the subject of remakes/reboots and how much you revere the originals. There are two very devoted, committed camps with opposing points of view on the matter. See post #121.

I think the most important thing to remember is that in 200 years, we will all be dead, and nobody will remember any of these films.

I hate Hodder's Jason, but to each their own. I'm a HUGE fan of the original 2-6, and I went to see the original thinking the remake would tribute their performance, not "reimagine" it. I didn't like the remake, but I still saw it so I can at least know what it is that is ruining Friday the 13th, no so I can just talk about it.This movie looks good, and I am hoping it is good. A lot of people say Platinum Dunes has their way of painting their turd films gold with their trailers, hope that's not the case here.
