I\'m interested in getting as many opinions as possible concerning web comics and what people like and, more importantly, are willing to pay for. The reason I bring up such a topic is because I have this idea a friend of mine and I have been developing for a web comic. It\'s an interactive story, mixing part traditional comic with Flash animation....not either or, but a hybrid. It is horror related, and we believe it would be well received based on those we\'ve shared it with so far.

Anyway, it is taking a lot of hard work and long hours (that we both do not have readily available) to complete our first story. In an ideal world, we would like to offer it completely for free as other sites do. However, with expenses such as web hosting fees and just overall time spent, it\'s hard to completely justify putting out something ona regular basis for free, having been (hopefully) well received, but getting no returns. We\'re not trying to get rich here, we just want to be able to fund the project without killing ourselves in the process. It\'s a fate many web comic artists fall into, and we\'re trying to pre-empt that in any way we can because we think this project has legs and could become a hit.

In terms of payment, such things as BitPass are making it easier for people to spend as little a a penny for something online. It works just like PayPal. Having said that, are people (such as yourselves) willing to pay a penny or even a quarter for a story? What if you had the first two parts of a story for free and then a quarter to see the rest?

I\'m just trying to gauge people\'s opinions here, that\'s all. There are web comic fans and horror fans...we\'re just trying to bridge the gap. Obviously, I understand it depends on how good the content is. We\'re pretty sure we have that taken care of. But I guess I just wanted others\' thoughts on the topic.

So, for those who cared enough to read my loooog post, I\'d appreciate any thoughts, opinions, ideas, or rants. Thanks!

Yeah, I\'d like to see what it\'s all about and then I\'d probably pay a quarter, or even 50 or 75 cents, I\'m sure it\'s for a good cause, right? I\'d wanna be able to go back and read back issues, though, without having pay again, that\'d be a bummer... Anywho, keep us updated, I for one can put 50 cents towards a good cause. Take care!!!!

if you get enough weekly visitors coming to your site to see your cartoons, can\'t you get advertisers to pay you to put stuff on your site? Maybe that\'d be enough money to continue the site and still be able to offer free content. Isn\'t that what sites like Bloody Disgusting do? Get the advertisers to pay for it?

Just a thought, I think a web comic is a pretty cool idea. I\'ve seen a couple that were cool.

Yeah, advertising is one way to go. However, that first requires quite a number of regular viewers to warrant advertisers to pay. And even if we were lucky enough to get that kind of readership, I\'m not sure I\'d want all sorts of banner ads screwing up the site...but that may have to be an avenue to consider to help cover costs.

Basically, our idea is one that can span many types of media...we first wanted to do a full motion animation series, but like I said before, our time is limited. So, for right now it\'s going to be the part comic/part animation format which I think will work just as well and is slightly easier to produce. It\'s just hard being only two people working on it.

Yeah, it is alot of work. My friend is handling all the pencils and inking, and I\'m doing the color, flash animation, and coding for the website. Ideally, we\'d like to have a company help us produce it becuase, well, our ideas come faster than it takes us to get things done. We have a notebook full of episodes from short to long stories, completely fleshing out a universe for this \"character\".

As far as the first issue, we\'re looking at another few months at least. He\'s pretty much done with the pencils and some of the inking, but then I need to work on it which will take some time. We don\'t want to put out crap, but we hope to start drumming up interest as things near completion. This project has been on and off again for four years so it\'ll be nice to finally see it come to fruition!
