I\'m wondering if anyone with knowledge on this subject could answer this question with some legitmacy.

My fiancee has been complaining on my use of the oven, to warm up oil-based clay for my sculpture. I\'ve heard from some reliable sources that cooking clay in an oven (or a microwave for that matter) leaves clay in the oven\'s atmosphere, or at least on a molecular level. Therefore, use of the oven for food preparation would leave the cooked food in the proximity of the clay.

I make reference of this possibility, as I know for a fact (scientific reports) that toothbrushes left in normal bathrooms (that contain a toilet) 99% of the time possess molecular levels of unmentionable material in the bristles. Much like burning a candle in a room, the near breathable air always contains a certain amount of the material that was exposed.

Now, obviously people aren\'t dying of exposure from their toothbrushes being left in regular bathrooms, so I\'m not supposing food cooked in a clay-cooked oven could do any real harm or damage to the human body over a prolonged time.

But, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this, any warnings, any recommendations or the like.
Also, please (as much as I like jokes on this forum) could I have serious replies, as my fiancee is going to kill me.

Thanks again for your guys expertise...

Well I never really heard of this happening, but i\'m sure it does. Since oil based clay is a hazardious substance. I would recommend using the microwave though.

Keep the female happy. Buy a $50.00 microwave just for heating clay. Problem solved.

if the clay has sulfur then yes it is really bad..but get a heat lamp or a microwave even if its safe it still stinks and make foods taste weird

Knock knock.... Oh wait, no jokes, sorry Wink
DEATH had a great suggestion, that would work and keep the peace in the house. I can\'t see how some remnants of the clay wouldn\'t stay in the oven, probably no where near enough to do any kind of damage, or harm, but over time it could build up, and why take chances if ya don\'t have to?

If you can\'t afford a new microwave, you can always just get a new fiancee.....
