Quote:Man, I\'m truely sorry to hear about your troubles. This happens all too frequent in this hobby and does indeed make it difficult at times to trust people. You\'re right.... it\'s hard for new hobbiests to know who the "good guys" are. I think that is why a feedback section like posted on MM.net is a great idea. People have asked for it here but it\'s a no go.
The best thing anyone can do when making a deal is ask for references. I have done it in the past and it worked for me. If the person with whom you may carry out a transaction is a trustworthy collector, they should have no problem giving you some names of other members with whom they have made deals.
Most of what I have learned has been over time, observing new transactions and reading "new score" threads where the new owner usually states the seller\'s name.
There are definitely more great collectors than "black spots" but it just takes one to ruin it.
Hope everything works out for you

I agree with you - I am feeling my way through learning thru experience but it has cost some money. I would think for newer people who can\'t afford " expensive" lessons you lose more people early than there should be.
This is an even bigger issue for the actual artists. They need new blood entering the game. Every time one drops out or get\'s taken advantage of that is one less dollar that an artist can earn.
Another potential solution ( even though I have no idea how to control) would be somehow in the profile of each member there were a status fied that was only controlled by the moderators.
Creating let\'s say a " Silver Screen " status would mean that at least 5 silver screen members vouch for that person. If this field could only be controlled by the mods it would add some level of comfort especially for new collectors.
You could still buy and sell with whomever you wanted but at least if you were dealing with a silverscreen member you knew it was someone you could trust.
I know if I were to buy from a non Silver member I would want my product up front and then send theirs or payment. After enough trades that new member would have probably earned enought trust to have 5 people " vouch" for him to raise his status.
Just an Idea I had a little while ago while I was still blowing off steam
