Either he could play him forever and hate it, want to quit, or die. And for them to keep going, someone else has to step in. Wes Craven created the character before Robert was even in the picture. It's really not a big deal. I learned from Rob Zombie's Halloween, that no matter what new movie comes out with the title of a series you like, it won't change the ones already done, so don't stress about it.
