I really wanted to like this movie but...ugggk.The character for ‘Hatchet’ was ok, at best. The appliances looked so outta place and extremely fake. The movie had absolutely the worst acting and one of the most pathetic endings ever to any movie. It’s like they said, ok moneys’ gone and let’s end it here. I believe Anchor Bay came up with the entire marketing of this movie…the whole “Old School Horror” crapola. With the acting, FX and everything else, they were just trying to basically throw it back into the 80’s for marketing purposes. But still, this film (Hatchet) had a budget better than or equal to some movies of today. The ‘slasher’ movies of the 80’s didn’t try to have bad acting or no money for FX. Some of the slasher movies unfortunately didn’t have any budget and they worked with what they had, and still for the most part, came away with movies that looked remarkably well made. For this film, they tried to emulate the 80’s saying this is what the 80’s looked like…well, that’s an insult to an era of slasher films of the 80’s because they never looked THIS bad or acted this bad. Sure, years later we can needle prick every 1980’s slasher to death, but at the time of the 80’s, those were cutting edge and kids flocked to them. This movie is cheep garbage and should have been shot on a video camera and then, maybe with absolutely NO budget, I’d give it the respect it deserves.
