It's been my nickname since the late 80's-early 90's.. I used to wear various skull t-shirts and stuff to work, my hobby was making corpses for low budget films. First my nickname was "death" because I wore a "Death Dealer" shirt on ocassion and folks were aware of my morbid sensitivities and attraction to death metal music, etc. It's also partially due to several friends committing suicide after my gf died, and I guess it just kinda' stuck considering I was already pretty morbid and had plenty of fresh joke material."Death" was cool, and very funny at times, though it was borderline worrisome at other times.. especially when my friend's daughter reportedly told her teacher that she had "played with Death all weekend." She also said things like "Death is my favorite person, and he is coming to get me tonight.. We're".The school called her parents immediately.. everyone had a good laugh afterwards, but I realized it kinda' wasn't cool..The name was a bit pretentious too, and I sometimes felt awkward being introduced to people as "Death," especially if folks had friends or family die recently. Most of the folks I ran with didn't pass around or use my real name anymore.. so it stuck, regardless of what I wanted, though sometimes it was changed to "deadie"Then in 94, I was getting my first home internet account, and "Death" was already taken as a username. I didn't really understand the significance, or know that I'd still be using the sign-in name ten years later, but I didn't try too many "non specific or joke names". Then I suddenly remembered a name that a friend of mine and I had laughed about.. there was a Judge Dredd comic book that dealt with "super heroes" in the wastelands outside of Mega-City.. There was a splash page on there with tons of questionable superheroes and their dubious 'powers'.. "Fatguy" and his power of overweightedness, "Strongguy" and his strength.. etc. In the corner of the panel there was a corpse in the mud and flies just laying there with X's over his eyes, and his tongue hanging out 'deadguy'. My friend had suggested it was like me, only with the super power of being dead. lolI totally went for it, registered with the name and it stuck in real life too, I preferred it to 'death' because it was a little more acceptable. Now it's even on my car's license plate. The only reason I do "Deadguy71" is that 71 is my birthdate, and "Deadguy" was taken. There's more to it than that.. but that's the semi-entertaining part.
