I think originality in any movie coming out of Hollywood is rare. Most things these days, even beyond movies, are regurgitated ideas themselves. However, John Carpenter's The Thing is always a great example of a remake that was actually better than the original. Remakes are not bad because they're remakes. One may be good, one may be bad. People who hate change or want to hold their precious movie in their back pocket so that no one deemed "unworthy" can ever hear about it or alter it will probably hate a remake before they actually give it a try. I just find it ridiculous that people can argue about a trailer that really gives no true spoilers. I mean, it's a SLASHER movie... Do you really expect anything new or different? I mean, come on! Nearly all the ideas for a slasher were overwith in the early 80's and in only a handful of films. You can't remake a Seven Samurai, or Terminator 2, or Jaws, or Braveheart, or 2001... but a slasher? Sure!
