While I like that the fx artists and designers went to great lengths to create a new Freddy design that is still familiar, yet with more realism and depth, I feel that they are really limiting themselves. I mean Freddy is a supernatural entity that manifests himself in nightmares; so why then should he be bound to only one kind of appearance? Look at 'Ghost Story' for example. In that film, the vengeful spirit manifests itself with various stages of putrid decay throughout the film (not to mention the ultra creepy design Dick_Smith did that was not used, but later used in 'The House on Haunted Hill' remake). So why not have Freddy appear in various stages of severe burns or charring in different nightmares?Just imagine one dream where Freddy appears shrouded by shadow, but you could just faintly make out the smoldering, charred black flesh contrasted with lip-less off white skeletal teeth. Or, perhaps a version of Freddy that is still on fire, but make it more dreamlike and surreal by making the fire move in slow motion for example. These are just a couple of my trifle of ideas. A being that is unbound by natural laws living in a dream world has untold possibilities in terms of visual effects.I mean why toss out all the different concepts if they can still be incorporated? Who knows? Maybe something like that will be incorporated in the film. I will just have to wait and see. I just see so many great, and creepy possibilities in this context of a film. It would just be sad to not see such potential adequately utilized.
