Hey Goaliehack, so what I thought was the serial number indeed is not, it was a number added after the fact as anti theft thing by my great great uncle(which was popular back then) it goes up and down on the headstock instead of across the top which is where it would be. It does have an FON that is 2988 27 and I finally found out that FON is from 1949. So it's probably a 50 since the FON is put on the neck early in manufacturing. You know as well as I do depending on the demand it could take a half a year to complete the manufacturing of the guitar. It was started in 49 and either finished that same year or in 50. So it's completely narrowed. Thanks for everyones help! I got a lot of information from the Gibson forum as well to help me out!
