I would recommend putting a shiner on it, to make it shiny. Since metal usually is, unless you are going for a rusted effect. For blood, I would do a couple think layers of paint, then a couple layers of blood gel, for the fresh effect. You may also want to spray paint the machete a bit to. You just have to be creative with it, go to a store and buy a plastic machete.
