I saw the full movie last night at a local theater for a friends and family screening.:possible spoilers below: :nothing to do with story though: I'm afraid to say many of you will be let down. The movie comes off as extremely contrived and lame. The CG used is so obvious that it really hurts the flow of the movie. Example, when he comes through the wall over the bed, the effects are absolutely terrible. The imagery does not stand up to the original, not even a little bit. This version of the film copies so many of the same EXACT shots and scenes from the original that the new movie just looks silly compared to it. On the plus side, Jackie is great as Freddy, although this is clearly not the same Freddy we know, not even the littlest bit. His movements are good, and at times you really do start to like the new Freddy. The similarities to the original literally end with the Sweater, Hat, and Glove. In his laugh (which is the best part of his vocals) you can sort of hear Freddy, trying to make his way out, but for the most part, his voice is so digitally altered, it's distracting. It almost sounds mechanized a lot of the time. The other actors are on par for what you would expect for a horror movie. I'd give them a leg up on the Friday remake crew. Rooney Mara makes for a pretty decent Nancy. On the whole, this is sort of what i expected and feared. The movie is a sub par remake. However, i would rather have Freddy back on the big screen rather than not. Also, it's way better than FvJ, which was abysmal.

Still quite an accomplishmentRichRich

You have to remember, this is all opinion. For every person that hates those scenes, or this film, or the new freddy, there will be plenty more that love it. Otherwise it wouldn't make any money and they wouldn't make the films in the first place. This film will inevitably be a box office smash (for a horror) and it will more than likely appeal to the vast majority who see it. So the film makers job is done, and rather well too I might add.Lets face it, as far cinematography goes, the originals weren't exactly amazing films, and past part 3, only really appealed to the die hard fans, many of whom also slated lots of the sequels (case & point above re FVJ) anyway, proving that you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I have been looking forward to this film since day one, and regardless, I do not think Jackie is going to disappoint. Also, from what i am seeing, the acting is at least solid. Rich

I didn't mean to upset anyone, as i have been looking forward to this movie from the moment it got the green light. Go see the movie, the movie is a lot of fun to see regardless. I mean, this is after all, Freddy, back on the big screen, in one form or another. As for the effects, i agree with what has been said, and i realllly wish they would have scrapped some of the heavy CG in place of some good practical effects. There is such a more visceral, real, gritty reaction to practical effects. Some scenes in this movie would have certainly benefited from it, one example which really stands out to me, is the the wall scene. His voice, as you've noted did sound different in all the trailers. In my opinion, they remedied that somewhat in the final version, as i feel it was a bit more cohesive in the final film, although there are instances where it does sound minutely different. The biggest let down for me was the mechanized sound to it, but, eh, it is what it is. The film is a lot of fun though. Go enjoy it for what it is.
