I don\'t know if everyone over here is familiar with the Wax Museum sale that was posted on the HMA earlier in the week.
If you were and sent money a lot of money for pieces ( as I did) your purchase is in jeopardy and you should immediately go to the HMA board and see what has transpired.

I have filed a claim with Paypal and contacted and disputed the charge on my credit card - my fingers are crossed that I will not be left holding the bag.

Two weeks before I was in the middle of trading ( from Rot) for a PS3 and was giving up a valuable piece and cash. Aftere trading 6 PM\'s within an hour I offered to drive up to do the exchange as his location showed it was only two hours away.
After the lamest excuse I have ever heard I realized I was dealing with a crooked kid - then the classified disappered.

I was tempted to post an alert on this board but not knowing 100% i felt that I would just let it pass.
I apologize to everyone who was taken in on this for not posting my concerns immediately. I empathize with Jon and wish I had taken some action. The problem is there are alot of people being taken advantage of and only a fraction are making here as an issue. Everyone I have talked to about the Wax Museum sale has said after the fact " How could you deal with that guy - everything with him is shady" - the problem is newer collectors do not know this ( such as me) and I am sure many will quit this hobby due to the actions of a few.

That being said i am done buying or trading for anything unless it is a person who I have already dealt with personally or has been recommended from someone I trust on this board who I have dealt with.

I am also done posting things for sale or trade here as I get too many emails either offering me 10 cents on the dollar or from people I do not know who are offering me trades on things they may not even own.

Anyone who wants to be on a list of friends who want to know when I am going to sell or trade anything PLEASE PM me with your personal email adress and I will add it to my adress book as long as it is someone I have bought or sold with in the past or comes recommended by trusted members on this board ( Super Dan, Knewby, number2 , Mr morningside,ONO, Warlock, Dahone, Dave Tyson - just to name a few).

During the month of December I have got two open disputes with paypal already and one open claim - I am pretty P*ssed right now

Sorry for the long post I am just getting frustrated by the dishonesty of a few ruining the integrity of the majority and i do not know how to fix it.

    All the best

I feel ya on this one. This time of year should bring out the best in people but instead the scammers and A-holes come out of the woodworks. I don\'t know an easy solution either other than what you suggest. Stick to those members who you know and trust and have built reputations within the community. I am getting soooo tired of scammers and thieves....................................Larry

Man, I\'m truely sorry to hear about your troubles. This happens all too frequent in this hobby and does indeed make it difficult at times to trust people. You\'re right.... it\'s hard for new hobbiests to know who the "good guys" are. I think that is why a feedback section like posted on MM.net is a great idea. People have asked for it here but it\'s a no go.

The best thing anyone can do when making a deal is ask for references. I have done it in the past and it worked for me. If the person with whom you may carry out a transaction is a trustworthy collector, they should have no problem giving you some names of other members with whom they have made deals.

Most of what I have learned has been over time, observing new transactions and reading "new score" threads where the new owner usually states the seller\'s name.

There are definitely more great collectors than "black spots" but it just takes one to ruin it.

Hope everything works out for you

I agree with you - I am feeling my way through learning thru experience but it has cost some money. I would think for newer people who can\'t afford " expensive" lessons you lose more people early than there should be.

This is an even bigger issue for the actual artists. They need new blood entering the game. Every time one drops out or get\'s taken advantage of that is one less dollar that an artist can earn.

Another potential solution ( even though I have no idea how to control) would be somehow in the profile of each member there were a status fied that was only controlled by the moderators.

Creating let\'s say a " Silver Screen " status would mean that at least 5 silver screen members vouch for that person. If this field could only be controlled by the mods it would add some level of comfort especially for new collectors.

You could still buy and sell with whomever you wanted but at least if you were dealing with a silverscreen member you knew it was someone you could trust.
I know if I were to buy from a non Silver member I would want my product up front and then send theirs or payment. After enough trades that new member would have probably earned enought trust to have 5 people " vouch" for him to raise his status.

Just an Idea I had a little while ago while I was still blowing off steam

I feel ya Shummy. This type of sh!t really brings my blood to a boil. There is nothing I hate more than liars and thieves. I hope from now on that if any of you veterans know someone who is shady or unreliable, that you call them out on it publicly.

exactly, there is nothing I hate more than thieves and liars and people who try to jack up a price after we made a deal and they decide they need more money and dishonest in their item descriptions  . I\'m fairly new to the game myself and so far I have had problem free dealings except for a mailing issue, that\'s out of anybody\'s control though..unless they ship with insurance and comfirmation. I have learned to get the best problem free service, just go to the artist yourself, place an order and wait for it.
