Awhile ago, I posted in the Classifieds that I was looking for a print of the cover of the CREEPSHOW comic book, as it looked in the film. I was also looking to see where I could score a copy of the Ashtray, that was also used in the film, as I had seen one on eBay awhile ago.My search led me to Chris Stavrakis, little brother to Taso Stavrakis, who is Tom Savini's best buddy. Chris is a very talented sculptor, who has done many 'Romero-based' pieces. He mostly does 'mini-busts'. His work is amazing. Anyhow, one of the pics that I saved from eBay, when I saw this ashtray, had 'Chris Stavrakis - Grecian Urn Studios' written on the bottom. Through some Google searches, I located his email address, and contacted him. Boy, am I glad I did, as he set me up with some AMAZING scores!!Not only did he make me a copy of the famous 'Ashtray', which appears in all 5 episodes of CREEPSHOW, and which, btw, he cast from George Romero's PERSONAL 'screen-used' copy, he made me 'dummy' copies of ALL of the CREEPSHOW comic books, front and back!!So what you'll see below are pics of the Ashtray he did up for me, which was made using Ultracal 30, and painted up to look exactly like the one used in the film. He even added the green felt to the bottom. It's nice and heavy, just like a real ashtray. Apparantly, this is the 6th one. He made 3 that were sold at conventions, 1 was given to Savini, and the other to his buddy Dave (who btw, owns the ORIGINAL E.G. Marshall bust, and one of the 4 ORIGINAL Crates, also used in CREEPSHOW), and me.As far as the comics go, theres the duplicate prop from the film, the copy that you see in the garbage that the spectre points at, BEFORE the lightning strike, where the words look normal, the copy at the END of the film, where it freezes on Billy stabbing the voodoo doll, and the rest, which are all advertised on the back of the comic of the Original copy in the film. He basically made 9 comic books, and put them all in bags with cardboard backing, taped and everything.The 1st pic is of the little note that he had sitting on the top of the box when I opened it.If anyone is a fan of CREEPSHOW, as I am, DO NOT hesitate to get a hold of Chris. He is simply amazing, and he'll set you up.
