I have a degree in Computer Animation and my intention was to do artwork for video games and maybe work my way in to TV or film animation. While making the rounds interviewing for those jobs right out of college, I took on a full time Web Design & Development position to hold me over while I beefed up my portfolio, but here I am 8 years later, still working in Internet & New Media. Of course, the internet has grown considerably over that time, so I've grown with it and don't think I'll ever get back to game development or 3D animation since it's a VERY different industry now than it was when I graduated.Funny how many of us in this hobby are in some sort of IT field, or technical computer-related roles. I guess it makes sense, but never thought about it before. Good idea for a thread!
I'm a line cook during the day. Been doing it for 17 years now. Mostly at bars but i've also cooked at family resteraunts, upscale 5 star resteraunts, banquet halls and the occasional catering gig. I like the atmosphere the most at the bars. Much more laid back. Right now I work at an Irish Pub. Been there the last 7 years. I also make MASKS for all you fiends but I'm sure most of you already know that <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" />-Bill

I work for a huge forging/finish machined rings company called Doncasters and have been there now for nearly 17 years! We basically make tons of different sized components for jet and airoplane engines etc, well anything that flies really lol.I work on Lathes and Borers and my job is to simply remove any flashing or cracking of the metal after it has come outfrom the furnaces, jobs tend to "Flash up" sometimes on the diameters after expanding etc and must be removed before the next opp for that particular job. Both the hammer and press drive thru what we call "Punches" straight downthru the middle of most jobs which then creates a hole which is then eventually finish machined to a certain size in mm.We have two forges where we have a 5 ton hammer and a very big press (couple of ton), the press simply squashes big solid metal lumps down to size and the hammer does the same thing on with repeated blows. Watching howeasy both these squash and flatten solid metal lumps down to certain thicknesses is an eye opener. Hours are fab and are 6 til 2 Mon to Thurs and 6 til 1.30 every Friday which gives me all afternoon to go tothe gym lol, and a big bonus with work only being a short 10 min drive if that for me!I'm extremely busy all the time thankfully which can only be a very good thing <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> -D
