At least give it a chance and see it with an open mind then make an informed decision<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndBut, see...that's what remakes and "reboots" do for a lot of people (myself somewhat included...although I tend to give reboots more of a chance). They alienate the fans of the original film/series to the point where they don't even want to give the new film a chance. People take this position for a lot of different reasons. Some don't see the need for the remake when there are so many original ideas going unmade due to fear of the studios to take a chance on new material. Some see the remake as sacrilege in some cases; they feel like remaking a film that was excellent and a "classic" to begin with is an exercise in stupidity, futility, etc. But, these people always run into the same argument from the people on the "other side of the fence"; "the remake doesn't take away the original...you'll always have that. If you don't like to wanna see the remake, don't. It's not like it erases the original". This argument/POV is valid to a degree. It's just that some people find the whole concept so completely repugnant that they can't bring themselves to see it that way. They're so offended by the basic concept that they're unwilling or unable to take that sort of approach let alone allow themselves to see the film before judging.Reboots/remakes are a pretty divisive thing. I can see the merit of/in both points of view. And, when it comes down to it, you're dealing with two very different but staunch beliefs in how to view the concept. You're going to have issues with the fact that some people have already made up their minds, while they are going to take issue with the idea that you can even bring yourself to go see the film to begin with.I'm not taking sides, I'm not saying someone's right and someone's wrong. I'm just saying...there's merit to both viewpoints but due to the huge inherent difference in the BASIC regard of the concept...it's almost better to NOT get into that sort of argument, you know? This is a pretty big stretch...but, it's sort of like the topic of abortion. Good luck ever getting one side to see it the other side's way. I think all you can do is respect the other side's stance, agree to disagree, and move on.<!--quoteo(post=351292:date=Feb 26 2010, 07:56 AM:name=puckface)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE (puckface @ Feb 26 2010, 07:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecI can't wait until the movie is released and most of the nay-sayers change their minds. It's be Friday the 13th all over again, LOL (guilty)<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndLOL. I like that you at least own up to it, bro'. And, I totally get what you're saying...but, remember what happened with Zombie's Halloween. There were a lot of naysayers before that film's release that have remained as such and, in fact, gained steam even after the film came out. Granted, you're right, some people will change their mind. Or, some of the reluctant or angry fans (who might be holding out or resistant out of a sort of loyalty to the original series and Englund) might eventually "come around", let go of their grudge, and try to enjoy the film. But, there will always be those (and I'd say at least half) who won't.And again, none of what I'm saying is meant as a judgment call on anyone. It's just my two cents.Cheers.
