Some don't see the need for the remake when there are so many original ideas going unmade due to fear of the studios to take a chance on new material. Some see the remake as sacrilege in some cases; they feel like remaking a film that was excellent and a "classic" to begin with is an exercise in stupidity, futility, etc.But, these people always run into the same argument from the people on the "other side of the fence"; "the remake doesn't take away the original...you'll always have that. If you don't like to wanna see the remake, don't. It's not like it erases the original". This argument/POV is valid to a degree. It's just that some people find the whole concept so completely repugnant that they can't bring themselves to see it that way. They're so offended by the basic concept that they're unwilling or unable to take that sort of approach let alone allow themselves to see the film before judging.Reboots/remakes are a pretty divisive thing. I can see the merit of/in both points of view. And, when it comes down to it, you're dealing with two very different but staunch beliefs in how to view the concept. You're going to have issues with the fact that some people have already made up their minds, while they are going to take issue with the idea that you can even bring yourself to go see the film to begin with.I'm not taking sides, I'm not saying someone's right and someone's wrong. I'm just saying...there's merit to both viewpoints but due to the huge inherent difference in the BASIC regard of the concept...it's almost better to NOT get into that sort of argument, you know?This is a pretty big stretch...but, it's sort of like the topic of abortion. Good luck ever getting one side to see it the other side's way. I didn't think I'd enjoy it then, and I still don't now. I've just learned to not firmly base my opinion on any movie until I see it. After I saw 2007's Halloween, I didn't care for it all and never saw it again afterwords. However, after I saw the sequal, it really gave me a new respect for the remake. Long story short, H2 was so bad (in my opinion ) that it kinda-sorta made me approve of Zombie's first film a bit more. I could probably sit through it now and not be as bias as the first time I saw it due to the fact that it could have been much worse...(-cough, cough- H2)

I didn't say very accomplished, but he's had some nice roles. He's coming back, ever since Little Children. There have been interviews with him about how his life was shut down from after Bad News Bears, and he struggled until he finally got some roles in the 2000's.Why the hell do you guys want Robert back anyways?

His wealth blinds him to certain realities, ideas, and notions that other people might take time to consider when making a film".Now, I could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted that post.As far as your assertion that Robert didn't make Freddy...as a filmmaker, actor, and fan...I have to very respectfully disagree. Wes Craven and almost anyone associated with the original film will be the first ones to tell you...that Robert was essentially born to play that role. When he walked onto set with full makeup and costume and the cameras rolled...everyone knew they were witnessing something very special. There are a few great stories in our upcoming documentary regarding this notion (from the participants on the original, and from some of the people involved with <i>Freddy's Revenge</i>), and I couldn't agree more with almost everything that was told to us in that regard. Robert brought something incredibly unique to the role that no stuntman or character actor could bring. Years of training, a classical background, knowing how to manipulate his body language to tell the character's story and bring it to life, being fully aware of elements that go WAY beyond what some people could even think of when acting...Englund brought all this and more to the character.Money and seven sequels made Freddy an icon. But, Robert Englund <i><b><u>made</u></b></i> Freddy.

I really don't think I can comment as deeply as the rest of you on this. I do see some elements that I like in the trailer, as well as some things I'm not too crazy about.What I can say though that no other horror movie has had the same impact on me as the original NOES had. Of course given my age when it was released, and the fact that we as youths at that time were a little more innocent and naive then kids are today played a big part in that. This movie for me does have A LOT to live up to, but I really can't give it an honest critique until I've seen it.Beside how much worse can it be then Freddy's Dead.

We wouldn't even be talking about a remake if it wasn't for Robert Englund and Wes Craven. Englund is Freddy pure and simple. He molded and became the character and made him an icon. There would be no franchise or remake if not for the brilliance of Craven and Englund. Plain and simple....

Oh yeah, should also mention the brilliance of Kevin Yagher (and David Miller to a certain extent) for developing the look and makeup of the character.....
