Robert played a great Freddy and the originals will always be there. No one is saying this film will be better than the original, nor have the same effect the original had on them. I know it wont for me, the original has it's place in my heart. However, this is the first remake I have hope for. The Friday the 13th one was horribly disappointing.

Agree with you Sickness and I have somewhat high hopes for this.....I just think that sometimes you have to leave the classics alone.....That goes for "The Thing" as well, although I think that's a prequel....If it was perfection the first time out, no need to touch it....

But our favorite 80's films are far from perfection... The original Nightmare has many of many of flaws, scenes where you can't stand the acting, and bad direction. We all accept it and love it for what it is though, because WE love it.

So, what you may regard as poor acting or shaky direction, another person might not interpret that way or might not even notice whatsoever. Now, if we're talking about unintentional lens flares, parts of the set falling down in mid-scene, or someone's makeup line showing, that's another thing altogether. But, just because something is flawed doesn't make it any less of a classic. I know you were specifically addressing 80's films, but even in a classic like <i>It's A Wonderful Life</i> there are all sorts of glaring errors. But people look past them because of the overall quality of every craft involved in the making of the film, because of the engaging and layered story, and the wonderful world and characters of Bedford Falls. As fans, we all accept and love <i>Nightmare</i>...but so do critics and general audiences everywhere. I could understand if you were talking about a film like <i>Friday the 13th, Part 3</i>, which is flawed as hell and generally not great filmmaking, but I still love it. But, we're talking about a film (like <i>Halloween</i>) that is widely and mostly hailed as a classic, a cornerstone of the horror genre, and a film that, despite its few flaws, still stands the test of time.And...I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just stating my POV.Cheers.

To be fair, Freddy is the creation of Wes Craven, not Robert Englund. As much as we all liked what Robert did with Freddy throughout the years, that's still his interpretation. Wes created the character and as everyone knows, he was supposed to be a child molester and/or killer, not just child killer. So if this movie sticks closer to Wes's original vision of Freddy, who's to say who the "real" Freddy was. Needless to say, Freddy has been different in one way or another in almost every film. We only consider Robert to be the definitive Freddy because of the years he's played him and the fact that we've never seen anyone else take on the role. It's not fair to be that blind-devoted, as many Kane Hodder fans are with Jason, as if he were in the 6 preceding movies before his own.

I have H1 RZ bu still have not opened, I only got it for reference for costumes.

Don't you think that's a little obnoxious? Not seeing the NEW Friday the 13th, one of your favorite character/film series.... Whether you are a fan of remakes or not, it's all part of the hobby. Just seems strange to not go to a remake of one of your favorite characters movies...

(weird coming from a hockey mask maker, huh?) And even though I assumed I would not care much for the 2007 remake or it's sequel, I saw them both in theaters simply to give them a chance and because in the end, I'm a Halloween fan.

I personaly think that Robert should have hung the glove up after part 3 maybe 4If that where the case then we would be fair to say that Roberts performance as the character Freddy was and will allways be the best.Simple matter is screen writers and directors ruined the charater of Freddy being and Robert was only interested because the franchise had grown so big already that the pay check was too good to turn down If they where only offering him what he got in part one do you really think he would have said yes to pt 5 6 and Vs ? don't think so <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /> So we could have seen a different actor playing him all these years ago anyway.Robert was great at portraying a character that someone wrote, probably too good, the problem is the writers where BadI would be interested in hearing what everyone would say if Robert was playing Freddy again and the same makeup design was used on him as they have gone with on Jackie and the voice was done in a simular way would every one then be Happy ?????????Me being a huge fan of Robert wouldn't be, because it is time for someone new and I think they have a great actor with Jackie and I look forward to seeing what this remake will do with re-launching the franchise new and original. It's all good people like it or not <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> new gloves for glove makersnew masks and bustscostumescollectibles and toys and more filmsIsn't this why we are hear ? they can remake it again in 5 year in 3d with Ben Stiller as Freddy for all I care <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/teehee.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":teehee:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"teehee.gif\" /> it's just another film to watch and hopefully enjoy , I don't know why people get so pissy about these things <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Rolleyes\" border=\"0\" alt=\"rolleyes.gif\" /> money makes the world go round

Chances are if they HAD gone with Rob (provided that's possible) we'd have had people claiming "no, this should be a fresh start/ rob shouldn't touch this piece of birdpoo, it's a remake not a sequel, it's going to be confusing now etc etc.."
