Thanks a lot guys!! Glad everyone is liking the progress shots, I know I always love to see em, so I try to get a few when working on pieces to show!

The sanding before the base coat just helps the paint stick a little better, if it's a slightly roughed up surface it gives the paint more to bond to. Plus, it gets rid of any possible dirt, or residue from the mold or shipping, or whatever. Lets you start out with a clean even surface, and that always makes for a better smoother outcome.
