I stop by everyday day and check the forum out, but most of the time, just don't have much to say. I love the hobby, but life really took its toll on me this past year.

In my opinion it's just the ebb and flow of any community based around collecting high end pieces. The economy I think plays a bigger role then most realise, without the disposable income to buy new pieces, and then subsequently take pictures and post them, it reduces a large amount of the regular new topics. NIGHTOWL is a community that's more then just masks, but that is where the foundation is, decrease on the masks, decrease on the posting. I like seeing new Leatherface, Jason, Mike, Freddy stuff, but it can get to the point there's just not a whole lot more to say on the subject. Time of year is a BIG factor too, between money being spent on Christmas, and people not having the time to take pics, or even stop by to post. I'm with the guys that don't mind this drop off though, when you look at some of the topics that were being posted, to what's being posted now, quality FAR surpasses quantity.
I've been around this hobby for a pretty good stretch of time now, and it's just part and parcel, things slow down, and then pick up, like I said ebb and flow.

One would be that most topics here nowadays tend to be about some Freddy/Jason/Michael/Leatherface mask that have already been done by hundreds of other people. Don't get me wrong, I love those movies (well, most of them anyway) but when you see mask after mask of the same old characters for years you gradually loose interest.

Couldn't agree more. There was a time when Mikey masks and hockey masks were the thing and kept the hobby running, but frankly they've all but worn out their welcome for a lot of people, myself included. But the fact is, for the most part, Jason/Fred/Mikey/Leatherface have a rotating door of fandom. But the hobby isn't at all what it used to be and oversaturation has watered it down a lot. Especially with hockey masks. Everything that can be done has been. And like Trav says below, there's not a whole lot more to say. There's nothing refreshing about them anymore and hasn't been for a while. A "part (insert sequel number)" hockey mask is still a "part (insert sequel number)", no matter how good it looks. And Mikey masks are the same to me.

Excellent post Trav. Couldn't agree more with this one either. Quality does surpass quantity.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with loss of interest in certain characters. They are icons that have been around since the 80's or earlier so for them to just die out now, and just on this forum is a little hard to grasp. It is simply the time of year. I've been here since before 2004 and it happens all the time every year. Only the strong survive in this hobby. This hobby gets better and better every year whatever your interest is. I have never seen the products offered in this line of collecting go backward, only forward. Be it a better artist or a better product offered to the collector. Be it MM, Jason, leatherface, etc. Evolution.

I personally never get tired of seeing the newest Jason goodies. (latex or hockey masks)
He's main interest in the hobby. But I suppose it's different for different people.

Anytime SPAZ/D-bach/Chainsaw would post collection pics, it was pure eyecandy for me. I enjoy
a good slasher collection. Of course I dig all of the other pieces from the numerous sci-fi/horror
    films as well.

I would just like to see more collection threads and brand new mask/figure/whatever threads period.

Couldnt agree more. 2010 was in my opinion the best year for collecting. There was so many great things offered that I would put it up there as the best year I have seen since 02. "whitey"/Jason/Leatherface/scream. I am blown away by what people are offering!!!!

I come on every now and then. I honestly don't like the layout of the place. It needs more organization, but there's good people here. I'm mostly a "whitey" guy and when I post new pics I hardly get any response. So why should I post?

I come here daily but don't post as much as I like. I'm still jazzed by the hobby, but some forums are geared more towards buying and selling and other are more discussion oriented. So some people will never buy high end masks but they enjoy looking at them. The market is more saturated now than ever, which is a good thing if u ask me, compeition keeps prices down and artists have to produce their best work or fall behind, I remember when hockey masks were $300 and no where near the paint qualty of today

The redesign was necessary .The old forum hardly worked because it was so out dated.
I'm not used to the new design yet and I want my colors back, I just have to get a breather to get with my guys to get things working better.
For those who are still active Thanks!

We have new members weekly maybe they are waiting for a good time to jump in. This is the slowest time of the year for us monster makers. People are focused on buying Christmas presents while juggling bills.

I'd take quality over quantity any day.

like joey said, I don't see why both can simply co-exist. it's a shame...

    I agree.
