Painting Hockey Masks

I\'ve painted a couple of hockey masks and I have trouble with the triangles. Specifically, keeping the edges of them neat and straight. I\'ve used that painters tape, but somehow the paint leaked under and so the edges of the triangles were not very pretty. So my question to all of you who have painted them, what do you do to get the triangles to be clean?

you have to run your fingernail or something along the edge of the tape, to hold it down well, where paint won\'t go under.. your other alternative.. (besides doing it by hand) is to...
put down your painters tape on your mask. spray a light clear coat over it.. this makes the surface from your tape to your mask as one. next, paint the area, and peel off the tape. it should be quite perfect. the real trick is getting the triangles the right size and placement.

Thanks, I did press the tape down on the edges with my nail, so I don\'t know what happened. If I paint another one, I\'ll try the clear coat.

That clear coat idea sounds pretty good. I\'ve always "eyeballed" where the triangles would be, and made a small spot on each corner with a pencil, and used a flexible ruler to draw the lines. Once that\'s done, I just paint them by hand. I have to use a REAL fine point brush, and a hell of a steady hand to do it. I stay away from the coffee doing that! heheehe

yeah I always did mine with painters tape too. Used the eyes and vent holes as reference for where the tris lines go, (do they point at the corner of the eye?) and stuff like that. Did what bull said, used pencil and a piece of cardboard as a straight edge. Drew the tris on, then masked them off and painted. If a little bit leaked under the tape, I\'d take the point of a pair of cuticle scissors and very carefully scrape off the little bit of red \'leakage\' to make it a straight line again.

I like the clear coat idea better though, sounds like less work, lol.

I have posted this several times and it works wonders...SCOTCH TAPE!!!!..it is inexpaensive and cropsy uses it as well so you cannot go wrong!!!!!!...I usually just eyeball the placement while laying down the tape then i press on the tape to make sure there are no lifted areas..then using acrylic paint mixed to my liking, i then proceed to paint it on using a sable-hair brush, for smoothness, i just keep smoothing it out remembering not to let the paint get thick around the edges then i peel off the tape and what i always get is a cropsy-worthy smooth-crisp line.
