Yes, it\'s official...Rob Zombie has signed on to write and direct the next installment of Halloween. So far nothing has said about it being a remake...all reports mention \"Halloween 9\" so I think we can safely assume it will be a sequel.

Anyway, what do you all think about this? Love it? Hate it? Indifferent? Personally, I\'m pretty stoked about this. The Halloween series has sucked for years. The original is my favorite movie of all time...part 2 was damn good, but not the original. Part 4 was a decent sequel, and I think 5 was too...despite it\'s retarded plot line. After that they just started getting worse, even though H20 had it\'s moments. But the last one was just awful IMO. I have only been able to sit through the whole thing once. So, in that sense, the franchise needs a kick in the hiney.

Rob Zombie, love him or hate him, has made a name for himself with Devil\'s Rejects. As interesting and cool as House of 1000 Corpses was, Devil\'s Rejects put him on the map and gave him recognition as a filmmaker. Even though I\'m against dragging the good Myers name through the mud even more, the addition of Zombie as not only director but writer as well just might be the spark the series needs to come back to life. And if it is, please let this be the last film in that franchise...make us forget that last piece of crap and once and for all, kill Myers with some dignity Big Grin

Ok, enough of my rambling...what do you all think of this?

Personally I think he rocks, I loved both his movies. The only problem I see is that his movies are very gory and he brings a kind of in your face kind of terror that is not normally seen in the Halloween series so with that said It could be a bad thing but then again he is a hugh fan of the classic horror movies. So i think he may tone it down and pay a good respect to what has already been built with the Halloween series.

Really after Busta Busta this can only be good for Halloween. Rob understands horror and the icons it seems so maybe he can take myers back to his hay day.

I think this installment will be great. Zombie is a true horror fan himself and this makes me believe he isnt just in it for the money, which wouldve been the case for most directors out there. I dont think there will be any rapper, supermodels or hotel heiresses in it, because he wouldnt dumb it up like that. I have enjoyed every movie in the series including H8, although it does kinda suck, it had its moments. I personally hope that myers never dies, i like the way H1 ended, open ended.

Now Justin if youre reading this, send zombie some pics of the butcher  , its about time the series had a good looking mask. It been way too long.

UPDATE: This just in on Rob Zombie\'s MySpace page:

    HALLOWEEN

Okay here\'s the real deal for those of you who are confused. As I said yesterday - I am not making Halloween 9. That series is done, complete, over.

But what I am doing is starting totally from from scratch. This the new HALLOWEEN. Call it a remake, an update, a reimaging or whatever, but one thing that for sure is this is a whole new start... a new begining with no connection to the other series. That is exactly why the project appeals to me. I can take it and run with it.

I talked to John Carpenter about this the other day and he said, \"Go for it, Rob. Make it your own\". And that\'s exactly what I intend to do.

Any questions? Go ahead and ask\'em.

Well, that\'s from the man himself... That makes me even more excited because it could be anything. I think it\'s the best way to go so he won\'t have to deal with the excess baggage of all the other sequels. I know H20 tried to do something similar, but part 8 messed that up by killing off Laurie Strode IMO. So go for it Rob....make the film you want to make and I\'ll be there waiting in line when it comes out.

No, there won\'t technically be a \"Halloween 9\" from what he\'s saying...it sounds like he\'s going to abandon much of the series and do his own thing. I have no idea what that means for the Myers character or music or whatever, but it seems like he can do whatever he wants with this...should be interesting to see it unfold over the next year or so.

yes i think it\'s about time we get a REAL horror director for a halloween movie since Carpenter . i mean with Zombie doing this one , you know at least you\'ll see some great gore moments and the fear and terror factor will be back . i mainly loved H5 and H6 for the myers mask but the plots sucked and after H2 it was like Ron Howard was directing them . we need a horror director for a horror movie and we finally got one . i can\'t wait for it to come out and i don\'t care what you all say . it\'s gonna be great , weither it be a sequal or remake or the first .

    mike,
