    What is the best brand/ type of clay for making mask molds?I'm just getting into this, but i'm not sure where to start. Thanks-Hunter

    i'm wanting to say oilbased clay . i know of some makers that use that but then i've heard of using WED . i'm gonna start sculpting pretty soon as well and am going to go with the oil based myself . good luck on your project . mike,

    i was wondering about oil-based, but i wouldnt want anything to deform when i'm making the cast.i'd probably get extra firm if i did get oilbased, but thaks for the tip

    You mean for making the wall or what? If you're talking about the mask wall you need EM-210. For just sculpting whatever creature or character or whatever you're doing, go with WED clay, or like Gary said.

    would i also need a full head armature or just start sculpting from a ball of clay? i would think an armature, but if i added too muchclay to the bust, i'd have a hard time getting the proportions correct.

    You can do it without an armature, just takes more clay that way. De-molding on an armature is a pain in the ass and you run the risk of ruining the armature.
