Zombie Tips!

I want to make like 3 Zombies for my Haunt this year, don\'t want to use masks, i want them to like gory and gross, any tips on making these kinds of effects using everyday household items??
I know how to make some awesome blood, but i want GORE!!!

One Zombie i want is a decappitated One so some tips on making a neck stump to put on the actors head would be cool!

There are lot of movies on inexpensive make up and props. I think it\'s a little silly to think you\'d get your answer here...

There are all sorts of cotton/latex facial build ups that can be done very cheap with great effects. I\'d look into Monster makers basic make up video. It shows a great example of zombie make up

Thanks Dan, I\'ll check it out! But if anybody has done anything like this before, just basic stuff, not looking for movie quality please post some pics and an explanation on how it was done!

Or u can buy some latex from a all year round costume shop, and then add small layers on ur face (where u want) and then after like 4 small layers, add toilet paper and then build up more latex. that would give u the look u want. it would be all mangled n stuff. i cant help ya out with the decapitated head. but i gave my 2 cents

Dan, we did a headless guy at Universal. Its a pretty difficult thing to accomplish though. Took a foam build up, a brace and a custom suit. You may want to try to avoid this if you can.
As for the make up.... Not sure how cold it gets where you\'re at that time of year but you can use a gelatin build up on the actors face. Just mix the clear gelatin from your grocery store with some warm water. It will gel as it cools. Just apply it as you want and color it with some Halloween make up. As long as its a cool environment, it will stay on. You can put some spirit gum down as an adhesive for it also.
Latex and cotton always work well just be sure to apply it in thin layers.
Use tissue with the latex and you can make some nice skin peeling effects and open bloody wounds. Or tear a hole in the tissue and paint the exposed skin white (like bone). Looks great on the forehead, cheeks and chin. A light thin brown wash over the skin and some dark color around the eyes and you\'re good to go.
You can get some soft soap and slick an actors hair back (let it dry) on one side or in a spot then cover that in blood. Makes a pretty gory effect with the rest of his hair messed up.

Hey Dan,
you can easily make a neck stump out of chickenwire covered with papermache. You can make the basic "skeleton" for your neckstump out of wire bend into rings. After that use the chickenwire and glue it into place (use it at an angle and not straight, that way you can form any way you want). Cover this whole thing with papermache and let it dry. If you want to add a little more detail to the torn area of your stump you can use acrylic caulk from the hardware store on it to make it look kinda gross. That stuff can be smoothed with a little luke warm water. Then just paint the bugger anyway you want and poor lots of fake blood on it. Should come out pretty sweet. I done something similar for a Winter carnival decoration two years ago and it was awesome. Hope this helps buddy.

Oh sorry, my mistake. Nonetheless, this method works perfect for display purposes. For a wearable stump I would go with the tissue and latex method mentioned before.
