Hey guys,HR669 is a bill currently before congress, that if passed, will ban breeding, selling, and transportation of any and all animals that aren't native to the United States. That would include virtually all pet fish; hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, ferrets; most snakes; and most birds kept as pets. I'm urging you to check out this site and do what you can to help.http://www.nohr669.com/index.htmAnd here is a link to the bill in it's entirety:http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/ge...:h669ih.txt.pdfThanks,Cole

Yep, this is serious! Just goes to show you how far govt can go, this will end virtually everyting other than dogs/cats. There are more deaths caused by horses each more so than snakes, or ferrets..

When I was doing my hots handling training to get my DWA license (you have to have that in the UK to keep anything hot except certain rear fanged species), I stopped as the license fee in my county is £1600 a year. On top of the £1,000,000 public liability insurance, extortionate vets fees and you have to pay some numpty from the council who doesn't have a clue about herpetology to come and look around to make sure your hot room is adequate.Other countys start as little as £16 a year and every local council sets their own price so where I live they've made it practically impossible as I can't afford that each year.I keep burms and boas now but I wanted a gaboon, copperhead and desert horned in the future. Not likely now unless they bring in legislation to make all the councils have the same license fee and make it realistic

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-a-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

I was under the impression this was to stop any animals not native that could survie here? I'm agaisnt this bill and have sent the letter to my local congressman however, they do need to tighten the rules a bit. For instance there was a fish a few years back I belive a a pair os snakeheads were let lose in a lake in the USA which destroyed everything in it because of their aggesive nature. (sorry about the typos doing this from my phone) Then again I think these fish are already illegal to own.

Stuff like that makes it look bad for the responsible keepers.
