I'll put money on foam latex like a lot of the old horror masks, I have an unused new nightmare hero hood and all the edges are dry and just to touch them they crumble almost into sand

I think the best thing you can do to further preserve and take full advanttage of enjoying this rather than it be shut away in the bag and folded is to contact a guy called Tom Spina , he specializes in preserving these old movie masks and displays and will even make a custom armature for it to sit on so you can display it fully as it should be Wink

If you can't find his site let me know and I'll find the link for you Wink

    great score mate

Sad to see such an awesome piece like this in that bad of shape . Makes me remember seeing pics of the 3 original TCM masks and how they look today Confusedad: . I would say that you could get a hold of the mask doctor and have him fix that bad boy up so you can proudly display that piece of movie history the way it is meant to be .

    Thanks IbDaToNeguY
Just sent an e-mail to Tom Spina. Hope it's possible and doesn't cost an arm or a leg. I did think of the mask doctor but his site doesn't seem to be functioning very well.

Daz beat me to it, he's exactly right, Tom does AMAZING work with pieces that should be total write offs and thrown away. He's restored some original Star Wars foam latex pieces that were missing I'd say close to 70-80% of the original material. He'd be able to completely restore this mask, and set it up on a proper display head for showing off a piece that really deserves to be seen! Not sure if he'd be able to do much about the signatures, but in all honesty, they're not what makes the piece special anyways right. If you don't have Tom's contact info I can shoot that to you.

Awesome piece of movie history!! Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III is my favorite from all the TCM movies.
