Help With Buying Camera

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good camera at a good price. I got a Kodak awhile ago with a little tripod stand that worked great, but the batteries went dead literally in 3-5 minutes of being on which I thought was ridiculous, so I took it back. My current Vivitar 10 which is very old, works well outdoors but I need a higher quality/higher resolution camera for larger resolution and better quality pics, as I am tired of the details of my work being drowned out. But I don't want one that is going to chew batteries up like that. Or do you need to buy rechargeables? Any tips would be great. I seen several at Walmart that are also Vivitar and other brands, are there any decent ones there? If not I will just have to save up for a better one online I guess. Any tips recommendations and sample pics from your camera would be great. Also a video camera recommendation would be great too. Thanks.

I just bought a Sony CyberShot from Walmart for $150.00a couple months back, it is the best Camera I have had for that kinda price, and the battery has only had to be charged twice,in two months! I use a Casio Exilim has 10.1 Mega Pixles takes great pictures and videos, and Battery Life up to like 5 hours no joke, and recharges in a wall. Price is about $105 got mine on sell at Target.

Cool keep the suggestions coming. Any sample pics in low lighting, bright, and outdoors would be great too. Does the Cybershot come with rechargeable batteries? Can you also use regular ones if you want while they charge. Or do you just use two sets of rechargeables all the time?

I use mine a lot for eBay and costume pics, so I guess that would be a factor on battery life. I am hoping to get continous use for at least a good 30 minutes with seeing a beeping, dying battery button.

I have a Canon Powershot A720 IS which I use primarily for collection pictures. I've been very happy with it so far. I'm sure there is a newer model available now, but I'd imagine that the performance would be similar. Most of the Powershots I've seen have been reasonably priced and they are easy to find. I can't really comment on battery life because I just take the occasional collection shots, but I still go with rechargeables. If your budget allows get a Cannon S10X. Is as close to a DSLR as you can get without paying the DSLR price. Usually run about $400
