Why We Watch Horror Films

"Horror cinema is the closest you can get to death without experiencing it."

Essentially, man watches horror to face his own fears....

to be brutally honest, I watch horror films for the escape from real life. They allow me to release all the tension and anger that I have against the world by cheering on the killers and monsters....I want them to win, I want them to kill...By me doing this, it saves the world...and myself...alot of trouble.

That\'s it man...you hit the nail on the head (for me at least). I can weatch people getting tormented and ripped apart all day....but that stuff in real life freaks me out.

In the end, I watch horror movies because I like that release of endorphines that gets my heart pounding (if the movie is good enough) or at the very least, makes me laugh and entertains me...and everything in between. But also because alot of my favorite horror movies tie in directly with my childhood so there\'s an added nostalgia that makes them even more appealing to me.

I don\'t know...I just can\'t see my life without horror in it somewhere...I\'m just drawn that way..

i like horror movies because besides fantasy they are the only thing that totally takes you out of this reality and into a different one. been watchin\' them since i was a kid and the first really scary thing i saw was michael jackson\'s thriller when i was four...scared me lots!!

In response to something someone had asked him about, \'How can you sleep at night, with all these monsters around you and around your life?\', Stan Winston said something to the effect of seeing a movie gets all the scares out, and I sleep well at night. So I guess when we watch a horror/thriller movie, were seeing and experiencing those fears and chills and we get that out of us, rather than being scared so much in our real lives... depending on the person I guess though...
I watch horror movies for the same reason I watch action, drama, scifi, and whatever else. Its entertainment and its fun to watch and experience.
