As far as I know you can\'t melt water based clay & to be honest I would not try, just use good old oil based. You can not just melt the clay & put it into a plaster mold so note that, you have to use a silicone mold or alginate mold of the piece you want to cast. You can however put plastic on the inside of a plaster mold & brush clay in over the plastic but you will lose almost all the detail but you will have the same forms & shapes as the peice you are trying to duplicate. Clay pressing or pouring are usually done is flexible molds. hope that helps a bit.
