I've had severe asthma for years now. Since I was about 5 or 6 years old. I've spent a few Christmases and birthdays in the ER as a child. The doctors would say due to over-excitement, I caused myself to have asthma attacks. I've even had to spend weeks at a time in the hospital when I was younger. School was a bit tough do to my frequent absences.
A couple years ago, I had to have chest surgery for my asthma. The doctors said that my ribcage may have been pressing against my lungs a bit and it could help. A couple years later, I honestly don't feel much of a difference unfortunately. Most asthma patients use their rescue inhaler once or twice a month, I use mine frequently throughout the day. I've been trying advair and singulair, but it just doesn't seem to work.
It's a bit depressing sometimes. I played baseball for nearly 10 years until I was simply unable to continue to do my asthma. But I suppose if it were not for that prevention, I may not be into a lot of the hobbies I am today. So I look at it as a blessing in disguise.
