Also works great for gun shot powder and blood wounds. For my part 6 gloves I will combine black, brown, gray, and perhaps some other paints, and add water to dilute them. Then brush on coats lightly, and smear and dab dry. Also make little cuts in the collar and other areas like the shoulders, sleeve cuffs etc, and pick at them with a wire brush to fray them.You also throw the shirt down in a stone driveway and kick it around and drag it etc, although I prefer paint over real dirt for hygiene reasons.
