So did <i>Godzilla</i>. <i>20 Million Miles to Earth</i> featuring the giant Ymir, was in 1957, as was The Incredible Shrinking Man, which featured a hero battling a comparatively enormous spider, and The Amazing Colossal Man. And they've been around up through the 80s (<i>Ghostbusters</i>) and beyond.
