I say there is nothing wrong with having a mask that isnt accurate, but go for the right look atleast. If you want a hockeymask, I wouldnt go out buying just any hockeymask you find on ebay. Get one with the right shape, like a Frighstuff blank atleast. I mean seeing those horror concept blanks out there painted looked odd, for years, noone really cared because they just wanted a hockeymask. Something similar to accurate is good though, like a GT even.
