A sharp box or carpet knife, sandpaper, watered down acrylics, and a bunch of elbow grease.Try to stay away from straight cuts. Take your knife and slide it down the material at a 45 degree angle until the material starts to rip. Then take sandpaper and fray up the edges. Take your acrylics, water them down to get the right color, and appy them. Start with a really watered down mixture and gradully keep mixing the paint with less and less water until you end up with just paint. Creates a real nice layered effect. After you get everything done and painted/ripped, take the material and twist and twist and then twist some more to get the dried acrylic washes to loosen back up.
