I know I don\'t do that because I have been collecting horror stuff way before the internet. Also, none of my friends like horror so it would be pointless to buy new things to show off lol. If I like it..I buy it..someone else thinks it sucks? Their problem..

Well I think that some people buy to impress others no doubt. Even if they don\'t really care for the piece. They just want it for show to let people see that they have it. I\'m not doubting that at all. I\'m just saying I haven\'t done it before.

    well

if the internet were just a figment of our imaginations, i wouls still have a collection, but it would be nothing like it is now. It would be full of plastic 8 holes modified to fit the different Hockey Mask styles...and i would have an assload of mass produced latex. That is how it was way...........before............the........internet. It wasn\'t until after i discovered the internet...back in...95/96 i believe, that i realized i could get better quality stuff....

    My two cents,
    Tommy

Anybody who gets a piece just because he/she thinks others will like it is an assclown. I collect what I like period. I\'ve never bought a piece I didn\'t want and didn\'t plan on keeping forever. Sure a new piece may come along later that I want or like more, but at the moment I buy a piece I want that piece and my collection is not complete without it. When I look at new piece I instantly form the answer of whether or not I want it in my collection. To me collecting is a hobby it fills a need for me. It is a release from the mundane day to day affairs of my life. What are we going to cook for dinner? Do I need gas today? My dog could sure use a bath. I don\'t think about any of that when I\'m looking at a new piece from Justin, Jon, Conor, Erich etc. All I\'m thinking about at that point is how it will look on my shelf or how can I make it fit on my shelves LOL. To me the best part of collecting is the act of collecting itself. The moment when the box arrives and you open it and set your sites on the newest addition to your zombie horde or movie slashers is great, the smell of the latex, the playing around of the hair, the setting it up just right to get some great shots of your new baby, that stuff is all great I probably wouldn\'t collect without it. But, to me anyway, I enjoy scouring the internet looking for these gems. I enjoy contacting mask makers discussing their pieces, making special requests etc. Basically its the thrill of the hunt that\'s the icing on the cake for me that little extra something that makes this hobby so much better than any other

    Its an interesting question,
ive often wondered if Id still make illustrations/artwork if I were on a desert island, (with all my supplies)Smile....I think I would to a degree, but probably more in a fundamental sort of way to satisfy myself....perhaps more sculpturesque, building structures etc...more Andy Goldsworthy!
Yes, mask collecting has its own radical reward for us, but
no one can deny that excitment, of showing your proverbial new bike to your friends....
you get it for your birthday, and you immediately cant wait to head down to see your friends and essentially show it off....I dont think this is much different....

Heh no doubt. Just the other day my mom asked me "why don\'t you just go to this place and buy it! Much easier!"

However, she doesn\'t realize that hunting down the stuff is the best part of it. I love looking around to find it I don\'t want everything to just be right there.

Maybe it\'s the natural male instinct to enjoy the hunt
