Forgot to mention too that most of us really fall hard for those we saw at an early impressionable age. I never got a chance to see "Dawn" til I was a teenager and caught it on video. By then, the gore had surpassed what Savini had done in the late 70's. So for me, it was kind of a letdown. I remember hearing the radio spots and seeing pics in mags, but by the time I actually saw it, gore was commonplace. I'm sure if I had seen it when it came out I would feel vastly different. It only played the midnite circuit near me on its original runs and no way in H E C K would my old man take me to see a midnite movie..........................Larry

I believe the reason it's hard for you to understand how anyone could prefer the TCM remake over the original is because of the impression the film made on you at a young age.You will always love it because of how original and absolutely bizarre it was at the time, and each time you see it that is what you will think of. At the time, the original was scary because no other film was like it. These days, many younger fans can't quite get into it because they have seen much more gruesome and suspenseful films. Some may even call it "boring". (not me for the record)While I am a huge fan of the entire series, I will be honest when I say that the remake is just more entertaining to me. I do enjoy the first film, very much in fact. The remake just is more of an upbeat film. It's similar as to how I enjoy H2 over H1 in some cases. They are both very much alike, but the sequel is just a bit more fast pace and has more going on. That make any sense?

This is a good topic. I just had to say, I Am Legend is not better than the original version, The Last Man on Earth.

You know I got yo back when it comes to your pieces though....lol. For me people who use the argument about "social commentary" are reading wayyyy too much into it. So Romero said people were eaten with consumerism. Yeah, and? Who didn't realize that? To say the remake of Dawn didn't have memorable characters needs to re-watch it..............................Larry<!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndSorry chum, you ain't tricking me to waste my time on that garbage again. If you prefer cool gore effects over a good story then that's your loss.

I enjoyed these remakes more than the originals:-Cape Fear (De Niro)-13 Ghosts (amazing make up on the ghosts)-House On Haunted Hill-Dawn Of The Dead-King Kong (Peter Jackson)-Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The Hoyt family was great.)

I just like the pacing and overall effectiveness of the zombies more in the remake. The original is groundbreaking, shocking, gory....but scary...not one bit.........................Larry

With re-make really only being used in name sake fashion, there really has only been one true remake; the god-awful remake of Psycho.Sure there were good re-starts…The ThingThe FlyDawn of the DeadTexas ChainsawMy Bloody Valentine 3-DFriday the 13thHowever, with the exception of “The Thing” and “The Fly,” not one of the re-starts is as good as the original.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I don't like the original. Doesn't do anything for meThe ThingThe Amityville Horror Dawn of the Dead - I like both but if they were mixed with the best parts of each that would be awesome. The original was silly at times. I didn't like I am Legend. I prefer the book.
