This is one of the coolest things I own! Was not an easy find, but totally worth the effort! It dates back to the early 1800s and was used by butchers as a carcase splitter for hogs and beef, so these took a pretty mean pounding To get one in the condition this one is in was a pretty nice bonus! It shows it's age, but that's one of the best things about it! The only thing it didn't have, that I wish it did was the wooden handle, but after nearly 200 years, and with the abuse, and moisture it would have gone through, it's LONG rotted away. But, I finally now have it recovered! My granfather is a genius with this kind of thing, he could put a handle on anything It came out perfect, exactly what I had in mind, a nice vintage look to it, function over form, and leaving the top section open for a leather wrap piece. So here she is complete in full glory!to give a size idea I took this one with my Ned mask, and other 200+ year old 18" cleaverIf you've got a cleaver, throw some pics up! Who doesn't love these babies!
